Garment typology and relation between the main and size measurements

The type of garment indicate the main measurement on which bases the garment’s pattern.

In men’s garments, the denominations of the sizes correspond to a measurement of the garment.

However the sizes do not correspond to any specific measurement in kis’s and women’s garments.

The measurement that is established as a size will be the size measurement.

Size measurements are always contours.

There are two kinds of contours: contours that measure the trunk and those that measure other parts.

The contours of the trunk are divided by two because the patterns cover only half the body.

The main trunk contours are:

  •  Breast: the half breast contour is a base measurement and can be a size measurement.
  •  Bottom: the half bottom contour is a base measurement but it is not a size measurement.
  •  Waist: the half waist contour is a size measurement but it is not a base measurement.

The rest of contours we consider the complete measurement.

One of them is the neck contour.

  • The neck contour is a size measurement but it is not a base measurement.
